Polymarket Bets: Trump Favored Over Biden for 2024 Election
Polymarket bettors are focused on Republican frontrunner Donald Trump, placing his odds of winning the November 2024 election against current U.S. President Joe Biden at 69%, according to prediction market data.
Joe Biden Calls for Unity Following Assassination Attempt on Trump
A significant lead for Trump is evident, as Polymarket’s website shows. As of Tuesday night, Biden had only garnered 19% of the votes.
Other Candidates Lag Behind
Trailing behind Biden and Trump are Vice President Kamala Harris with 6%, Michelle Obama with 2%, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with 1%. Additionally, 2% of bettors predict that another Democratic politician might win, although this seems increasingly unlikely with the Democratic National Convention (DNC) approaching.
Assassination Attempt Sparks Controversy
Trump’s overwhelming popularity among prediction market voters comes shortly after an assassination attempt at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, targeted Trump, injuring him and two attendees. Corey Comperatore, a 47-year-old firefighter, was mortally wounded.
“I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump told reporters on his way to the National Republican Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he is set to accept his party’s nomination. He is rewriting his speech for the convention, describing the experience as surreal.
Biden’s Plea for Peace
While the shooter’s motive is unknown, Biden urged Americans to “lower the temperature” amidst the polarized political climate. “Disagreement is inevitable in American democracy,” Biden tweeted. “But politics must never be a literal battlefield. We stand for an America not of extremism and fury, but of decency and grace.”
Trump Courts Crypto Community
On the campaign trail, Trump has embraced cryptocurrencies, despite previously criticizing them as “highly volatile” and “based on thin air.” In contrast, Biden supports the SEC’s regulation of digital assets. In May, Trump hosted a gala dinner at Mar-a-Lago for his NFT collection purchasers, reinforcing his pro-crypto stance. “I guess you could say it’s a form of currency and I think I’m for that,” he said.
As the RNC approaches, it remains to be seen if Trump will highlight crypto in his remarks Thursday night, as the race to the November 2024 election intensifies.
