Russian Firm Warns of New Trump Deepfake Crypto Scam Bot

A Russian cybersecurity company has uncovered a deepfake scam targeting cryptocurrency users. Fraudsters, it seems, are employing advanced AI technology to deceive unsuspecting individuals.

FACCT Discovers Deepfake Bot on Chat Apps

Moscow-based Fight Against Cybercrime Technologies (FACCT) recently revealed that a bot circulating on chat apps can create deepfake videos. This tool, as FACCT explains, allows users to generate videos featuring famous individuals such as Donald Trump.

Moreover, the bot enables users to create video and audio files with any text input of up to 400 characters. Since it primarily targets English-speaking audiences, scammers are using these videos to promote fake crypto exchanges.

Scammers Exploit Social Media Platforms

Furthermore, these deepfake videos have begun appearing on platforms like TikTok and YouTube. Fraudsters have also impersonated other well-known personalities, including Elon Musk and Tucker Carlson, to make their schemes seem credible.

FACCT Highlights Three Main Scam Types

According to FACCT, crypto scammers are focusing on three distinct fraudulent activities:

  1. Fake Crypto Exchanges and Brokers
Scammers trick victims into transferring funds to fraudulent wallets and disappear with the money.
  2. Crypto Predators
These schemes involve malicious links that install malware, which ultimately allows scammers to access victims’ crypto wallets.
  3. Scam Tokens
Victims are persuaded to invest in fraudulent tokens that cannot be traded or sold.

Crypto Fraud Materials Found on Telegram

In addition to social media platforms, FACCT discovered promotional materials on Telegram targeting crypto investors. Many of these materials, which include fake videos and images, urge users to join private chat groups.

Rising Crypto Fraud Cases in Russia

The Russian Central Bank has noted an alarming increase in cryptocurrency scams this year. Besides traditional scams, fraudsters have also started using digital ruble-themed schemes as the nation prepares for its CBDC launch.

By staying vigilant and informed, individuals can avoid falling victim to these sophisticated scams. It is essential to verify the authenticity of any crypto-related offers before taking action.
