Introduction
AUSTIN, TEXAS – On Wednesday, Galxe (GAL), a Web3 infrastructure and digital credential network, announced its plan to develop its own layer-1 smart contract platform, Gravity. The network will transition all its products to this new blockchain.
Initial Launch and Testing Phase
The first version of Gravity, built on the Arbitrum Nitro tech stack, will commence in June. This phase will transparently test cross-chain settlements. The comprehensive Gravity Mainnet, featuring native staking and restaking, is expected to launch in the second quarter of 2025.
Motivation for Gravity’s Creation
The Galxe team explained that the user base has grown significantly over the past three years, now reaching 20 million users and 100 million monthly transactions. This increase necessitated a more efficient and scalable solution to handle cross-chain interactions among the 34 blockchains that Galxe supports. The existing solutions were inadequate in supporting the required complexity and scale, prompting the development of Gravity.
Key Features of Gravity
Gravity will operate as a proof-of-stake blockchain, incorporating restaking through EigenLayer and Babylon to enhance security using the Ethereum network. The platform will introduce a new native token, G, by migrating the existing GAL token’s contract already approved by the platform’s decentralized autonomous organization (DAO).
Technical Specifications
The network will utilize Reth as the execution layer and the Jolteon (AptosBFT) consensus algorithm to achieve near-instant transaction finality and high throughput. It will also maintain compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).
Migration of Key Products
Galxe Passport, which has nearly 1 million users, will be transferred from BNB Chain to Gravity. Additionally, the Galxe Score contract will migrate from Polygon to the new chain.
