FIFA Partners with Mythical Games to Launch Free-to-Play Soccer Game ‘FIFA Rivals’ on Mobile

FIFA, the global soccer authority, has teamed up with Mythical Games, a leading blockchain gaming studio, to create “FIFA Rivals,” a free-to-play soccer game set to launch on iOS and Android in the summer of 2025.

This game will feature real-time arcade-style gameplay, allowing players to manage their soccer clubs and compete against others worldwide.

FIFA Rivals: A New Era in Soccer Gaming

According to Mythical Games, “FIFA Rivals” is a chance for players to “build their squad, dominate the competition, and create their legacy.”

John Linden, CEO of Mythical Games, highlighted the game’s growth potential, referencing the success of NFL Rivals, which attracted over 6 million players despite the NFL’s smaller global fan base.

With FIFA’s worldwide popularity—5 billion viewers tuned into the 2022 FIFA World Cup—Linden predicts FIFA Rivals could surpass 100 million players.

Blockchain Integration Enhances Gameplay

FIFA Rivals will operate on the Mythos blockchain, supported by the Polkadot network. This move reflects a broader trend of integrating blockchain technology into sports gaming.

Blockchain-based games provide innovative features, such as allowing players to own and monetize in-game assets, enabling a play-to-earn economy.

Building on past successes like “Blankos Block Party,” another Mythical Games project that migrated to the Polkadot network, FIFA Rivals aims to facilitate millions of transactions monthly.

Mythical Games’ Expanding Ecosystem

The development of FIFA Rivals is backed by the Mythos Foundation, established by Mythical Games in 2022. This initiative focuses on:

  • Building cross-chain infrastructure.
  • Supporting NFT-based in-game economies.
  • Expanding esports through Web3 innovations.

The foundation collaborates with traditional gaming platforms to implement policies that meet gamers’ evolving needs.

Additionally, Mythical Games’ $37 million Series C1 funding in June 2023 has fueled its marketplace expansion and revenue-generating ventures like FIFA Rivals.

Sports Industry Embraces Blockchain Partnerships

Blockchain technology continues to gain traction among sports organizations. Recent collaborations include:

  1. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) partnering with Matchain to improve fan engagement and data security through Web3.
  2. Inter Miami, Lionel Messi’s team, joining forces with Polkadot to enhance fan interactions via blockchain.
  3. UEFA exploring cryptocurrency sponsors for its 2024-2027 Champions League cycle.

In addition, Crypto.com has heavily invested in sports partnerships, including:

  • Renaming the Staples Center as Crypto.com Arena for $700 million.
  • Signing a $175 million deal with UFC, featuring its logo on fighter gear.
  • Collaborating with the Philadelphia 76ers, Formula 1 Racing, and LeBron James for promotional campaigns.

A Glimpse into FIFA Rivals’ Future

As blockchain technology reshapes the gaming landscape, FIFA Rivals could redefine how fans engage with soccer. With the Mythos blockchain at its core and FIFA’s unparalleled global reach, this innovative game has the potential to become a landmark in the sports gaming industry
