Ex-SEC Commissioner Takes on Key Role at Blockchain Real Estate Platform Propy

On Friday, Propy, a leading blockchain real estate platform, announced the appointment of Michael Piwowar to its Advisory Board. Piwowar, a former acting SEC chairman and commissioner, will offer guidance on navigating key regulatory environments.

Background on Michael Piwowar

Michael Piwowar served as a US SEC commissioner from 2013 to 2018. Currently, he is a distinguished policy fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Financial Markets and Policy. He has also held positions as a senior economist at the White House under Presidents George Bush and Barack Obama.

Piwowar expressed enthusiasm about joining Propy, stating, “I’m incredibly excited to be aligning with Propy as the real estate market presents an enormous opportunity for innovation. Real estate is a cornerstone of the global economy, and leveraging cutting-edge technologies like blockchain and AI is essential to overcoming the many challenges the industry faces.”

Former Wall Street Journal Columnist Michael Casey Joins Propy Board

In addition to Piwowar’s appointment, Propy revealed that Michael Casey, a former Wall Street Journal columnist, has joined its Board. Casey previously served as Chief Content Officer at CoinDesk for four years and played a significant role in launching MIT Media Lab’s Digital Currency Initiative, where he continues to advise.

Casey’s prior experience includes roles as a reporter, editor, and columnist at The Wall Street Journal. He is also the author of six books, including his latest, “Our Biggest Fight: Reclaiming Liberty, Humanity, and Dignity in the Digital Age,” co-written with business leader Frank McCourt.

Propy’s Innovative Approach to Real Estate Transactions

Propy is transforming real estate transactions through blockchain technology, smart contracts, and cryptocurrency. Users can select properties similar to traditional listings, but Propy enhances the process with blockchain for additional verification and security. Once the buyer and seller reach an agreement, Propy generates, encrypts, and records the purchase agreement on the blockchain.

High-Profile Users of Propy

TechCrunch founder Michael Arrington and entrepreneur Grant Cardone are among the prominent users of Propy. Arrington used the platform to sell a Kyiv apartment as an NFT, while Cardone listed his $42 million Miami property through Propy.

Propykeys and Enhanced Deed Security

In March, Propy introduced Propykeys, enabling users globally to create digital addresses for physical properties, from homes to notable landmarks. Built on Ethereum L2 Base, this innovation improves deed security by transitioning from paper records to blockchain. This advancement combats deed fraud and streamlines various aspects of traditional real estate transactions.
