Crypto Mining Proposal Withdrawn After Strong Public Opposition in Minnesota

Revolve Labs has withdrawn its proposal for a crypto-mining facility in Windom, Minnesota, on September 26. This decision came after local residents opposed the project. A public hearing highlighted community concerns about noise pollution.

Opposition Against Mining Facility in Minnesota

Residents worried about noise and its impact on property values. The company stressed its commitment to community values as a reason for pulling its application.

Jeff St. Onge, senior operations manager at Revolve Labs, said, “We aim to operate in a way that aligns with community values and priorities. Collaboration is essential for this.”

Noise Complaints Halt Plans for Minnesota Bitcoin Mine

A Minnesota town’s proposed Bitcoin mining project, which could have reduced energy bills, has been canceled. Residents raised significant complaints about the noise.

Initially, the facility would have operated near Cottonwood Lake and generated $35,000 in monthly service fees for Windom. Although the project promised economic benefits, local resistance was strong.

At an August public hearing, around 100 attendees voiced their concerns. Many residents complained about excessive noise from the company’s operations in Glencoe, Minnesota. The worries extended beyond noise; residents also questioned how crypto mining would affect property values and the environmental impact of high power consumption.

In response to the backlash, local officials suggested a moratorium on new crypto-mining permits in the county. This recommendation indicates a reluctance to approve similar projects in the future.

Local Community’s Mixed Reactions

After Revolve Labs withdrew its proposal, local residents shared varied reactions. Some felt relieved, while others expressed disappointment over lost economic opportunities.

One resident said the community was “overjoyed the current worry is over,” while others noted that the withdrawal might mean missing out on financial benefits for the town.
